How to Date a Law Student

Happy Finals time to everyone. I actually miss the caffeine high, lack of sleep, pretending to study in the library with Katie, 5 papers in one week, and anticipation of being done with school for the semester this year. Who would have thought? So anyway...it's that time of year...so I figured I would write this:

HOW TO DATE A LAW STUDENT

1. Don’t expect to see them. Ever. Especially during finals time.
2. Remind him that not everyone in the world needs to be sued... for everything.
3. Learn to accept the fact that they will not have any money for about three years. In fact, they will just be falling into more substantial debt with thousands of dollars in loans. So dates will consist of watching football and eating subs on the couch.
4. There will ALWAYS be another case to read and brief before they can talk to you.
5. Expect them to make comments such as, “There’s a tort waiting to happen,” and other weird phrases that you will pretend to agree with, even though you don’t understand the legal jargon.
6. They will have a lot of affairs. With their books.
7. Support them when they have a bad day and go through the dramatics of, “I’m never going to become a lawyer because I am going to fail out of law school.”
8. Sometimes you will forget you have a boyfriend. Your family will ask how he is doing and you’ll say, “Who? Oh yeah…he is doing well…I think.”
9. Their study habits will make you feel like a complete bum. When you call him after watching your fifth episode of FRIENDS, he is in his fifth hour of studying.
10. The longest you ever talk on the phone will be when you are checking for passive voice and other grammatical errors in his 20 page memo for his Legal Research and Writing class. I knew my English proofreading skills would come in handy for something.
11. And finally…hope that it all pays off in the long run and that when they remember they have a girlfriend they will treat you like the princess and saint you are for putting up with them during those three years.

Happy Studying!

hahaha, so true. My sister and her (now) husband went through law school together & even lived in the same apt while studying for the bar. I don't know how they had time for each other.
